Message to parents/carers

Year Six PE will be on the following days:

6L – Wednesday & Thursday

6P – Monday & Wednesday

Spellings

Following assessment, the children will be given spellings to learn. These spellings will be taught throughout the week and incorporated into our English lessons.

Homework

For the remainder of the year the children in Year 6 will be set homework for English and Maths from the CGP revision guides. A letter with further information about the revision guides will be sent out shortly.

  • Homework will be set on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday
  • Your child’s reading record should be in school every day
  • Children need to be reading at least three times a week and a comment recorded into their reading record every time they read.

English

In English, we’ll be revising key writing skills: Vocabulary, conjunctions, openers and punctuation and exploring how to vary our sentence structures for effect. We will be developing newspaper reports – linked to natural disasters around the world whilst studying the story “Ice Trap” written by Meredith Hooper, to inspire writing of different genres.

Maths

History

In Year 6, over the next six weeks, we will be following the IPC unit of Existing, Endangered, Extinct.

This unit of learning is part of the International Primary Curriculum. This curriculum sets out very clearly what children will learn in three different areas. In geography, we will be learning about the characteristics of different biomes and earth and how threats to such biomes are causing rapid change. Furthermore, in Science we will be learning about biodiversity, the impact of global warming, food chains and animal adaptation.
